CCH HARVEST TIME: A 10-Year Trace of Iris’s Creative Development

Iris began coming to class when she was around two and a half years old—still at an age when she sometimes arrived with a milk bottle in hand. Her mother chose to begin during this early developmental period, not to train her to produce a particular kind of picture, but to give her time with colour, materials, and open-ended making.

Over the years, that early experience developed into something more than technical ability. Iris learned to enter a creative situation directly, make choices without waiting for a prescribed outline, and stay with an idea long enough to transform it. Today, she is able to complete work independently, develop her own ideas, and explain the thinking behind her decisions.
